Ugandans, especially those whose loved ones remain incarcerated by the now-defunct court-martial, find themselves caught between a rock and a hard place after Criminal Museveni opposed the recent High Court ruling that halted the prosecution of civilians in military courts.

It has been a week since the High Court issued its unappealable decision, which Museveni was quick to scornfully dismiss, stating, “The country is not governed by judges.”

Despite interventions from civil society, parliament, and pressure groups, efforts to secure the release of several Ugandans—particularly opposition members who have been unjustly detained in the General Court Martial for years—have been in vain.

For decades, these military kangaroo courts have served as Museveni’s primary instruments of oppression, especially during election periods.

Among those who have consistently faced their wrath is Dr. Kizza Besigye, a four-time presidential candidate and one of the most notable figures in Uganda’s political opposition.

Under the narcissistic dictatorship of Museveni, Uganda has descended into a failed state, with every arm of government crippled by his relentless greed.

For nearly four decades, Criminal Museveni has prioritized his self-enrichment and the interests of his inner circle over the nation’s development.

Institutions meant to serve the people—such as the judiciary, legislature, and security forces—have been rendered dysfunctional, reduced to mere tools for consolidating his authoritarian rule.

Ugandans deserve better. It is time to rise, demand accountability, and reclaim the future stolen by Museveni’s tyranny.

A luta continua!
