Time to pack bags: Ugandans are declaring Museveni persona non grata
Ugandans across the nation are increasingly making their voices heard through democratic channels and other avenues, expressing their rejection of Museveni’s lifelong kleptocracy and anarchy. They are resolute in their demand for a new Uganda—no matter the cost!
The results of yesterday’s bloody by-election in Kawempe North, where the opposition National Unity Platform (NUP) secured a landslide victory over the power-hungry tyrant Museveni’s candidate, stand as undeniable proof of Ugandans’ determination to rid the country of his nearly 40-year-long junta.
The people of Kawempe defied all forms of intimidation, including the deployment of heavily armed military forces by the aging tyrant himself, who personally campaigned for the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) candidate – which even made it worse!
Criminal Museveni’s security apparatus abducted hundreds of opposition supporters, many of whom are now languishing in detention centers and torture dungeons facing unimaginable torture and inhumane conditions.
Meanwhile, some dozens of opposition supporters are feared dead, their whereabouts unknown following abductions. However, these brutal tactics did not deter long-oppressed innocent citizens from expressing their defiance and making their case loud and clear at the ballot box.
This marks the second by-election loss for Museveni and the crumbling NRM regime in their former strongholds. In November last year, they suffered another humiliating defeat in the Kisoro Woman MP by-election.
Meanwhile, Ugandans from all walks of life continue to resist tyrant Museveni’s brutal regime, which has long been associated with human rights violations, including abductions, illegal detention, extrajudicial killings, corruption, and nepotism among others.
The regime responds with deadly crackdowns and arbitrary arrests, but the protests persist, with citizens vowing to continue their struggle until Museveni and his NRM are ousted.
The outcomes of the Kisoro and Kawempe North by-elections paint a clear picture of what to expect in next year’s general elections, where Museveni is once again seeking re-election. The writing is on the wall: Museveni and his NRM will face an inevitable defeat as Ugandans have already made up their minds to vote them out.
Since seizing power at gunpoint in 1986, octogenarian tyrant Museveni has never won a truly democratic election—his grip on power has always relied on electoral fraud and manipulation. However, the defeats in Kisoro and Kawempe North signal that these tactics are no longer effective.
These by-elections serve as a preview of what is to come. It’s now evident that the power-hungry and bloodthirsty criminal Museveni’s days in State House are numbered—whether he accepts it or not. Watch this space!
