In an unusual turn of events, the Archbishop of the Catholic Archdiocese of Kampala, Paul Ssemogerere, has condemned criminal Yoseri Tibuhaburwa Kagutema aka Museveni’s continued manoeuvres to cling to power, and particularly warned him that persistent engagement in graft carries “the wrath of eternal death.”
The outspoken Archbishop made the remarks while leading the Easter Mass at Lubaga Cathedral.
In his preaching, the prelate addressed governance and systemic failure, democracy and corruption among other issues of national importance, which clearly depict the anarchy Museveni has created as a modus operandi to maintain his grip on power over the past four decades.
For instance, the prelate called for respect of the Constitution, noting that during the recently concluded election season, many people were beaten, brutally injured, while others were arrested and detained illegally. He urged Museveni’s junta to release the thousands of political prisoners it holds incommunicado or ensure they are taken to court for a speedy and fair trial.
He went on to condemn Museveni’s institutionalized corruption and moral decay highlighting that it was undermining moral values and weakening public trust in leadership.
At that point, he particularly warned Museveni, the mastermind of corruption in this country, to shun it or risk dying like Judas Iscariot.
“Corruption has become normal and we have over-sung about it,” Archbishop Ssemogerere noted.
“I don’t know the prayer that will help us overcome corruption, but remember that Judas Iscariot, after taking money to betray Jesus, later hanged. I inform you, public sinners, that you too will die if you do not abandon corruption,” he added.
Over the past 40 years, criminal Museveni has ensured that he surrounds himself with corrupt figures such as Sam Kutesa and others in the military and police, because they protect his selfish and malevolent interests.
The disgraced dictator himself was once caught red-handed in New York City in a corruption scandal, having received bribes of $500,000 from a Hong Kong–based Chinese businessman, Patrick Ho, who sought favours to conduct business in Uganda.
Enough is Enough, we must ensure that we liberate ourselves from Museveni’s kleptocracy.
