Museveni’s gold rush: The hidden agenda behind Uganda’s DRC operations
Criminal Yoweri Museveni’s personal military force, UPDF, recently marked the third year of its multimillion-dollar operation in the mineral-rich eastern DRC. However, new revelations show this operation is less about combating the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) and more about enriching Museveni through resource plundering.
Reports and research increasingly highlight that Museveni’s troops are exacerbating the region’s fragile security situation through extensive gold smuggling operations. This illicit activity not only undermines peace efforts but also perpetuates conflict by funding armed groups.
One blatant example is the connection between a Ugandan gold refinery owned by Museveni’s inner circle and regions of the DRC controlled by armed groups. The refinery has been implicated in receiving gold worth hundreds of millions of dollars, enabling these groups to sustain their violent activities.
Among Museveni’s accomplices is Alain Goetz, a businessman sanctioned by the U.S. Department of the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) for his role in the illicit trade of DRC gold.
Instead of fighting the ADF, despot Museveni’s soldiers aid over 200 rebel groups in eastern Congo. This strategy ensures continued access to mineral resources, providing Museveni with significant personal economic gains while further destabilising the region.
Furthermore, greedy dictator Museveni’s claims of combating the ADF are shrouded in controversy as he created the terrorist group 29 years ago to justify Uganda’s involvement in the DRC. The results of this interference have been catastrophic: thousands of Congolese civilians have lost their lives, particularly in Ituri, where violence continues unabated.
The Congolese people deserve to know the truth behind narcissist assassin Museveni’s agenda, a narrative that goes beyond the pretext of counterterrorism to reveal a calculated scheme of resource exploitation and economic self-enrichment.
