On February 25, 2025, Ugandans woke up to yet another instance of state-sponsored violence and human rights violations orchestrated by Criminal Despot Museveni’s regime. His hit squad was deployed to interfere with the democratic process in the Kawempe North by-election.
First of all, why is there a by-election in this opposition stronghold? Because Museveni, the chief assassin, recently orchestrated the cold-blooded killing of Hon. Mohammed Ssegirinya (RIP), the trailblazing MP who relentlessly gave his regime sleepless nights due to his selfless dedication to developing both his constituency and Uganda at large.
On that fateful day, the opposition National Unity Platform (NUP) candidate, Elias Nalukoola Luyimbazi, was brutally abducted after submitting his nomination papers—alongside dozens of his campaign team members.
As if that were not enough, Miracle Ibra, a journalist at Top Television, was assaulted by Museveni’s Gestapo under the notorious Joint Anti-Terrorism Task Force (JATT), leaving him with a severe right-eye injury. Given the extent of the damage, only divine intervention may restore his vision.
Meanwhile, Faridah Nambi, the NRM flag bearer, was given free rein to paralyze traffic on Gayaza Road, while her NUP opponent, independent candidates, and journalists faced brutal beatings.
As Ugandans, we have grown accustomed to such double standards during election periods ever since the power-hungry Criminal Museveni seized power at gunpoint 40 years ago—a clear indication of what the forthcoming General Elections will look like.
It is imperative that as Ugandans, we stand united and resolutely condemn Museveni’s reign of terror if we are to build an inclusive and democratic country.
