“I will not cling to power.”
“The problem of Africa in general, and Uganda in particular, is not the people, but leaders who want to overstay in power.”
These are just a few of the infamous pronouncements once made by the power-hungry despot, Yoseri Tibuhaburwa Kagutema aka Museveni, before and shortly after seizing power at gunpoint over 40-years ago.
Yet, four decades down the road, especially today, the frail and widely despised despot has proven that his words were nothing more than hollow treacherous rhetoric, designed to deceive the gullible and the naïve citizens.
Today, as we participate in Museveni’s staged elections, we must challenge the status quo, given that he is blatantly disregarding his own pledges about not clinging to power.
This is despite growing calls from long-oppressed Ugandans demanding his exit from power; demands they have never ceased to express at the ballot box, even though Museveni has shamelessly stolen every election in broad daylight.
The greedy power-hungry dude now seeks a fresh mandate even as Uganda continues to suffer from deep-rooted crises he created that include endemic corruption, soaring unemployment, tribalism, sectarianism, stalled development, widespread poverty, and institutional decay, silencing dissent, illegal arrests and detention, torture forced disappearances, brutal abductions and extra-judicial killings among others.
Since 1986, criminal Museveni has never conducted or won any free, fair and democratic election. His illegitimate grip on power has been sustained through coercion, militarism, and the systematic erosion of political freedoms.
As our country, Uganda goes to the polls, we (the citizens) remain firm and unshaken in our resolve to end criminal Museveni’s reign of terror, no matter what dirty tricks he deploys to salvage his collapsing regime.
Enough is enough, blood-thirsty tribalistic criminal-Museveni must not rule beyond this month.
