United States of America Senator Jim Risch (R–Idaho), Chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, has boldly joined world leaders in condemning illegitimate dictator Museveni’s continued manoeuvres to rule for life at the expense of Ugandans.

In a statement issued this Friday January 23, 2026, Senator Risch described Uganda’s just-concluded sham elections as “a hollow exercise staged to legitimise Museveni’s seventh term after more than four decades in power.”

The USA senior official clearly stated that Museveni’s regime “prioritizes domestic control through political violence, abductions, imprisonment, intimidation of opponents, and the misuse of state resources to maintain its grip on power.”

He further underscored the widely acknowledged fact that Museveni remains a regional destabiliser, most notably in South Sudan, emphasising that his regime has become an increasingly problematic exporter of instability.

Senator Risch also called on the Trump administration to reassess the USA security relationship with Uganda, beginning with a review of whether sanctions are warranted under existing legal authorities against specific individuals.

What the senator hinted at mirrors the same process that led to U.S. actions against Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro whose crimes, arguably, pale in comparison to Museveni’s. Museveni stands out as an even more egregious offender.

It is noteworthy that the very Western powers that once aided and abetted Museveni’s rise to power now appear fed up with his excessive greed for power. This bold shift deserves recognition.

Blood-thirsty criminal Museveni must go now!
